As an independent appraiser, I implement jewelry appraisals for a variety of purposes and markets.   The answer to the question of cost becomes complex and depends entirely on your particular appraisal needs. My prices are competitive and reasonable while giving you the quality, expertise, experience, and the benefit of my education.

I usually charge a flat fee per item to appraise a simple ring depending on the complicity of the piece. Starting price for single item is $115.00. For larger estates, I would charge by the hour. For high-volume appraisals, hourly rates may be more suitable and efficient.  AGS required ethics in the charging of appraisal costs and It's important to note that it's unethical for anyone's appraisal fees to be associated with the value of the item itself. A truly ethical appraiser only charges by the hour or by the piece.

In situations where you simply need to establish the fair market value of the items but need no formal or written report, I can provide a consultation alternative. I will assist verbally with assigning values for equitable distribution of the assets.  As a result, a hourly rate would apply (with a one-hour minimum), but because no written report is made and no photographs are taken, the amount of time billed is reduced considerably.
